St. Charles District Library receives grant

The St. Charles District Library received a $5,050.00 grant from the Saginaw Community Foundation for the library’s STEM Program scheduled to begin in October 2017.

The STEM program will allow young patrons to experience science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, with fun, hands-on activities.  The grant will allow the library to purchase a 3-D printer, Chromebooks, KEVA planks, electronic kits for engineering and Raspberry Pi III kits for computer coding.

The grant will help make it possible for the St. Charles District Library to become an engaging and interactive learning space.

The Saginaw Community Foundation awards grants to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, local units of government and religious institutions.

The "1,000 Books before Kindergarten" is a FREE and ongoing program that encourages parents to read with their children as a way to develop early literacy skills before Kindergarten, and foster a lifelong love of reading. The goal of the program is for children to have read 1,000 books before entering Kindergarten.

To get started, pick up your 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten starter kit with instructions, and reading logs starting April 1 at the St. Charles District Library.  For more information, contact the St. Charles District Library’s Children's Department.

The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program is sponsored in part by the:
Michigan Center for the Book,
Free & Accepted Masons St. Charles Lodge 313, St. Charles Lions Club
and Law Office of James Hession.
